The Tree

When we bought the place, we knew that tree had to come down before a storm dropped it on the house. With a month of talking and planning, the day finally came windier than we liked but here. Andy (Concord Father-In Law & All around great guy) and I pre planned, sharpened and tuned the chain saws, gathered a plan and cut. This was the process: 1. Prepare Equipment 2. Plan 3. Cut limbs (only ones that need cut high and low) 4. Drop half thats leaning toward house (used cable to pull as I cut) 5. Drop main portion (Also had saftey cable)

The almost finished product. This wood will go to great use: our wood stove. I still have some cutting to finish, then lots of splitting and stacking, so it can season before winter.

The Swing

Yesterday was a day of construction. We built Concord Baby's Swing. The rough frame of 4x4's is large enough to support 2 swings so another will be added soon. Concord Baby recieved his swing form Grandma and Grandpa for Easter, but finally the weather has broken long enough to get the thing put up.

Spring, The Hussle and Bussle of Life

Ahhh! What a busy time of year! So much to do, so little time. Life been busy with unpacking boxes (yes still), Concord Dad working every third day for 24 hours, Concord Mom attending College, and the busy body 5 month old Concord Son. This time of year outside work is at its peak, especially with the recent purchase of this home and land.

We have all our animals on the farm now. To date we have 3 dogs, 2 live ins (Jake & Morgan) and a stray puppie (Suzie Q). Our flock of 11 White Rock Chickens is -2 now due to rooster fights. And with the purchase of cows two weeks ago, we now have 4 cows total: 2 Dexter cows each have a calf: one Dexter heifer and one Angus/Hereford steer (Long story...beef-to-be).

This past week alot has been accomplished. We got the new clothes line poles set, and lines up, wow I live line dried clothes. Tilling our garden has been quite the job since we are breaking new ground with heavy sod, and lack a plow. We modified our medium duty tiller to get us started, the rest will need to be done by hand. Concord Mom has been busy starting seeds for this years garden, we started later than usual this year but a late garden is better than none. Garden Plant List: Tomatos Lg & Sm, Bell Peppers, Cuccumbers, Beets, Lettuce, Onions, Green Beans, Sweet Corn (Silver Queen), Cantelope, Pumpkins, Strawberrys and Watermelon.

Like to mow grass? I dont, but I love having a huge yard and therefore must mow the grass every once in a while to keep it looking half decent, LOL. The purchase of a lawn tractor has made this chore a breeze. On saturday we bought a used 18 HP Sears-Craftsman Garden Tractor with a 48 inch mowing deck, and the ability to get other attachments for it including a plow, tiller, trailer and a snow plow which will help tremendously next winter.

Home Sweet Home!!!

Finally after quite a search we've found a place that suits our wants, wishes and lifestyle. This little farm has so much potential, and only time will tell.


The house was built in 1900, but at 108 years old it has had many improvements, it sure doesent show its age, and is the perfect farm house. At about 1500 sqaure feet, it has a 3/4 basement, Front porch with view of yard and road, two bedrooms and two bathrooms, a large kitchen, comfortable living room, and sun room with a beautiful view of the pasture and yard.


Pasture and woods, just what we were looking for. According to the auditor we have a 1 acre home site, 8 acres of pasture and 12.992 acres of woods. The goal of starting a self sustained small cattle herd has deemed pasture a necessity. Pasture good mix of grasses and legumes, has been hayed in recetn years. Corn was on the fields many years ago. As for the woods, mostly young growth and scrub with old growth oaks, maples and hickorys at the perimeter.

We have many plans and ideas for our home and land. We will update as progress is made.--J
